Star architect Matteo Thun was brought on board for the project. His keen sense of what is essential and of this unique location, as well as his unwavering commitment to sustainability, characterise the new building.
The development will comprise 28 rooms and suites, which are sure to delight guests thanks to their unique location on the shores of Lake Chiemsee, offering views of both the lake and the mountains. The plans were developed with great attention to detail, a keen sense of the exposed location and a strong focus on sustainability.
A small but exquisite spa area and an outdoor pool provide the perfect setting for relaxation.
Our new ‘Boathouse’ will be the perfect venue for your events. The BeachClub and the Sundowner Bar & Lounge invite you to celebrate legendary sunsets.
The Chiemgauhof will perfectly complement our resort, Das Achental, whether it’s a day at the BeachClub or a delightful evening in the restaurant right by the lake.
Thanks to the excellent cooperation with the municipality of Übersee and the Traunstein District Office, the new Chiemgauhof will blend seamlessly into the landscape. The existing trees will be largely preserved, and we are already looking forward to welcoming you back to the lake from autumn 2024.
Until then, do visit us at the Das Achental resort in Grassau. We’re also here for you over Christmas and New Year’s Eve and have some wonderful feel-good packages in store for you! Whether it’s a wedding, a conference, a family celebration, a two-star menu at our gourmet restaurant es:senz, culinary delights at the Weißer Hirsch restaurant or a cosy drink at the bar… we’ll be delighted to pamper you!

Foundation stone laid for the new Chiemgauhof – opening in winter 2024
On 9 May 2023, the developers Uschi and Dieter Müller, together with District Administrator Siegfried Walch, Übersees’ mayor Herbert Strauch, as well as the star architect from Milan, Matteo Thun, and around 50 invited guests, lay the foundation stone for the new Chiemgauhof on Lake Chiemsee.
The hotel is set to open in winter 2024, continuing the legacy of the legendary Chiemgauhof at this special spot by the lake. It will feature 28 rooms and suites, a restaurant and dining rooms, as well as a beach club with a sundowner bar and lounge. The new ‘boathouse’ will provide the perfect setting for events and celebrations for both locals and guests. The beer garden, with its mature trees, and the jetty will be preserved, thus forming a link between the old and the new.
The globally renowned star architect Matteo Thun has been brought on board for the project. His instinct for what is essential and for this unique location, as well as his unwavering commitment to sustainability, characterise the new building. The plans were developed with great attention to detail and a keen sense of the site’s exposed location.
“It is important to us that the new Chiemgauhof blends into the stunning landscape and the shores of Lake Chiemsee. And Matteo Thun has achieved this superbly with his plans.
“We want to ensure our guests have an unforgettable time in the Chiemgau and to promote tourism in the district,” emphasised Dieter Müller, owner of the Das Achental resort and the Chiemgauhof. “The Chiemgauhof will perfectly complement our Das Achental resort in Grassau. There, we have the 3-star restaurant es:senz with Edip Sigl, one of the region’s most beautiful golf courses, extensive gardens, a 2,000-square-metre spa and wellness centre, and here, right by the lake, a special hideaway.”
Special thanks were extended to Traunstein’s District Administrator Siegfried Walch, as well as to the municipality of Übersee, with Mayor Herbert Strauch and all the local councillors. Thanks to the excellent and constructive cooperation, the new Chiemgauhof will blend perfectly into the landscape.
The family who own the hotel are already looking forward to enjoying the legendary sunsets over the lake once again with guests and locals, accompanied by a good glass of wine.
