Achental in Chiemgau has been named "Chef of the Year 2023". The award for Chef of the Year in Germany, presented by "Der Große Restaurant & Hotel Guide," was determined during a conference with the guide's responsible staff, inspectors and editors.
"Edip Sigl tinkers with passion, skill, meticulousness and a great wealth of ideas to create dishes that are rooted in the Chiemgau region and yet always push the boundaries of the usual. The interplay of ingredients is characterized by finding the ideal taste and testifies to an absolutely contemporary cuisine at the highest level," said the jury on the selection of Edip Sigl.
Edip Sigl successfully defends his 2 Michelin stars
Chiemgau's only 2-star chef inspires at es:senz in Das Achental. Great is the joy in the resort Das Achental in Grassau: Edip Sigl, chef of the gourmet restaurant es:senz, has successfully defended his 2 stars.
This makes Edip Sigl the only 2-star chef in the Chiemgau region. Yesterday, Sigl was again awarded 2 stars in the 2023 Guide Michelin. "I am very happy about this recognition. It is confirmation for me and my great team that our guests appreciate our passion for the culinary arts and that we are on the right track ", says the 37-year-old and adds with a twinkle in his eye: "At the same time, however, the award also spurs us on to reach for the third star."
Our sommelier Iiro Lutter was honored for his "Excellent Wine Concept 2023" at the VDP Wine Exchange in Mainz. Lutter is one of the five award winners selected from numerous applications by the jury of the Excellent Wine Concept, consisting of annually changing vintners, representatives of the magazine "meiningers Sommelier" and the VDP. And in the course of the ceremonial opening of the VDP Wine Exchange in Mainz, the best wine concepts were announced.
However, Iiro Lutter was not awarded for his concept, but also for the construction, maintenance and development of the wine list as well as for the outstanding advice and support of the guests. Here is the laudation that VDP president Steffen Christmann gave to Iiro Lutter: "It is amazing that Iiro Lutter has managed to build up a first-class wine list in a newly opened restaurant within just one and a half years. This is only possible with a sufficient amount of experience, and Iiro Lutter can undoubtedly point to this. Top addresses in the Palatinate or on the Mosel have made him deeply familiar with the merits of German wine.
German wine, and thus the white wines from the German wine-growing regions in particular occupy a large space. His experience also helped him to know which wineries to approach in order to be able to offer a certain vintage depth, at least selectively, regardless of the opening date in June 2021."
